Balance books from a London trader

Overview

Account books of an anonymous speculative trader, providing yearly summary of accounts. Each volume covers a year, and contains a dozen accounts in fair detail and a list of 50 to 100 accounts showing net profit or debit. The "bottom line" is about £50,000. Cargoes largely consist of tropical produce; the trader also imported cheese and butter from Holland into England and had other investments.

The majority of the letters (1913-1915) were wrttien by Grace's sister Carrie, a nurse at various hospitals in California, including the German Hospital in San Francisco. Barnabas Dorr Palmer personal papers

The papers include (1) a testimony to his recent left-handness sworn before Douglas County Clerk in 1867, (2) a manuscript titled "A sketch of my military history" which he entered in a penmanship contest, sponsored by William Oland Bourne, editor of the "Soldier's Friend", (3) a letter from General U.S. Grant awarding Palmer first prize in the contest, and (4) letter awarding Palmer a $50 prize.

Four glass plate negatives of varying sizes depicting basketball teams from unidentified high schools. Includes a 1917 sophomore team (logos on jerseys difficult to read); 1913-1914 juniors with a trophy (emulsion is flaking off plate); undated portrait (there appears to be an 8 on the basketball?); and the 1912-1913 S.J.H.S. team (plate is cracked in half). The teams are in various standing, seated, and kneeling poses and consist of 5-7 boys in uniform.
